150 bags of refuse cleared in Bethal

AfriForum’s Bethal branch cleaned up 150 bags of refuse in this town earlier this month as part of the #OurTown campaign. With this campaign, local communities tackle various do-it-yourself projects in towns all over the country.

This time the Bethal branch’s cleaning project was focused on Davel Road and Church Street in the vicinity of the SPCA offices, while farmers from the Kippen area cleaned and tidied up the Davel dirt road. It is these farmers’ initiative that gave rise to the cleaning project in Davel Road.

Meanwhile, another cleaning project is being planned for Bethal. This time the focus will be on clearing the field next to the municipal workshops, the area adjacent to the Total Janmari fuel station and the open field opposite the Nestlé houses.

Kobus du Plessis, a local farmer who is also involved in the clean-up project, made an urgent appeal to the community to respect the environment and not litter.

“If we can all just start picking up the rubbish, one of these days Bethal will be much cleaner. Through this project, however, the Bethal branch takes the bull by the horns and shows that communities that stand together can make a real difference. Refuse in Bethal presents numerous challenges as it is not only detrimental to businesses, but can also pose serious health risks,” says Hennie Bekker, AfriForum District Coordinator for the Highveld.
