Springs branch takes duck pond under their wing

The Springs branch of AfriForum decided last weekend to step in and clean their town. The branch also repaired the faulty borehole pump at the duck pond.

The borehole can also be used by the Springs branch as an emergency water point when there is a water shortage or when the water becomes contaminated and is not suitable for human consumption, such as the cholera outbreak in parts of the country.

This follows after the park in Springs has become neglected and dangerous due to a lack of maintenance by the Ekurhuleni Municipality. The Springs duck pond was recently maintained as one of the branch’s sustainable projects. The lawn is mowed regularly and the litter in the park is being picked up. Electricity and lighting in the park have also been restored and the ducks are being fed regularly.

“The branch is doing an excellent job and it’s great to see the big difference they make in the community. Thanks to the branch that decided to intervene, the duck pond is still a place that the community of Springs can be proud of,” says Jurie Ferreira, District Coordinator for the East Rand.

“As soon as a community stands together, one can immediately notice the difference. The duck pond not only looks more beautiful, but it also creates hope for a community that suffers from inefficient municipal service delivery. We believe that actions like this will encourage the residents to get involved or to join AfriForum’s Springs branch to make a difference,” concludes Ferreira.
